We established Misima Stud in Mountain River in the spring of 2008. The 95 acre farm is located in the picturesque Huon Valley in southern Tasmania approximately 30 minutes from Hobart.
After starting to breed Wiltshire Horn sheep we converted the stud operation to Wiltipoll sheep, a hardy breed based on the Wiltshire Horn sheep but with the advantage of being polled.
Misima Wiltipoll sheep are raised on native pasture year round in a typical Tasmanian climate with wet and cold winters but dry summers.
Our Misima Wiltipoll sheep are low maintenance, fully shedding and don’t need to be subjected to shearing crutching or the controversial mulesing. We focus on breeding hardy easy care sheep that are thriving even on poor unimproved pasture.
The Misima flock is managed to optimise the health of our breeding sheep and progeny. All our sheep are vaccinated annually but we avoid chemical drenching by having a very low stocking rate and by breeding for worm resistance.
Please have look at our Misima Stud blog for the latest news and development on the farm and feel free to contact us anytime for any information or questions regarding our Misima Wiltipoll sheep.
